My In-Depth Titleist Vokey SM10 Wedge Review

How does the Titleist Vokey SM10 Wedge look?

The SM10 is available in three finishes (Tour Chrome, Nickel, and Jet Black). All three are stunning to look at when sitting in the golf bag or used on the course.

While I prefer the Tour Chrome finish, if you want to diversify the look of your golf bag, the Nickel and Jet Black are every bit as sharp and sleek.

When looking at the golf club from above, you’ll find a very clean appearance staring back at you. The grooves are razor sharp and compact, and the topline has a beveled appearance that is rather eye-catching and helps with confidence.

I don’t think I’m being hyperbolic when I say the SM10 is simply the most gorgeous wedge ever created, and it’s suitable for any handicap.

How does the Titleist Vokey SM10 Wedge feel?

When it comes to feel, the new SM10s carry the long tradition of Vokey wedges being the best short-game clubs in terms of responsiveness. Every impact feels great, even with shots that leak a little toward the toe.

The SM10’s ability to feel great no matter the course situation makes it the best wedge on the market. Whether I was sitting pretty in the fairway or buried in the rough, I found that contact was clean with minimal vibration.

On full swings, the SM10s are rather sturdy and feel firm in the way that you’d expect a high-quality scoring iron to respond.

Especially with the new T-Grind, which minimizes bounce and gets the sole even with the turf, the feel is absolutely pure, providing a weapon for shots outside 80 yards.

What handicap is best for the Titleist Vokey SM10 Wedge?

First, let me say that the better you are at golf, the more you’ll get out of the SM10 Wedges. If you are a low handicapper, I think you’ll really love the control and lower flight of these new models.

That said, if you are a mid-handicapper and the SM10’s price point doesn’t scare you, then you’ll find that these clubs absolutely revolutionize your short game.

You may pay as much for four of these wedges as you did for your iron set, but if you are truly serious about becoming a single-digit handicapper, the Vokey SM10s are simply unmatched.

What I truly love about Vokey Wedges, especially when handling the SM10, is that you can see how much time and effort has been placed into making these golf clubs the best they can be for golfers of any handicap.

How does the Titleist Vokey SM10 Wedge perform?

After spending hours with the club, I truly believe that the Vokey SM10 Wedge is the best wedge available to amateurs when it comes to versatility, performance, and total control.

On the range, I was able to play with several different grind options. Boasting a remarkable 25 different loft, bounce, and grind combos, I admit that you can certainly get lost in trying to find the best combination for your game.

That said, if you have experience playing Vokey wedges in the past, you’ll find your preferred bounce and grind easy to duplicate.

Once I got the SM10 on the golf course, I found that the lower attacking flight certainly helped me maintain that strong connection with the ball.

With each swing, the ball jumps off the face with a more penetrating arc, and you can definitely feel that control with your hands.

The confidence I felt with the SM10s started high and stayed there throughout my time with the club.

When comparing the SM10s to the SM9s, I noticed that the ball flight was lower, which helped me control the distance better.

While that might not be appreciated by the average weekend warrior, the experienced golfer will certainly love that lower trajectory coupled with the outstanding feel and high spin.

The SM10 utilizes its shape when you are sitting in the sand to cut through smoothly and easily, helping lift the ball onto the green.

With lofts running from 52 degrees through 60 degrees and four different sole grinds to choose from, the SM10 for women golfers offers plenty of options to fill out the golf bag.

The bounce options range from 8 to 14 degrees, helping women find how they want the wedge to interact with the golf ball.

The multiple bounce options also provide a wide array of ways to play any type of course condition, from firm turf to heavy rough.

The women’s SM10 utilizes a Mitsubishi Tensei Red AM2 graphite shaft to keep the club lightweight. The Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grip finishes out the wedge.

My Verdict

If you’ve played golf for a few years or more, chances are you’ve heard other golfers talk about the magic of Vokey wedges.

The latest version, the SM10, is by far the greatest combination of exceptional craftsmanship and pure performance in the company’s history.

I really loved several things about the SM10, including its low, penetrating flight, maximum spin that helped me hold the green from any lie, and grind options that allowed me to customize how I set up my golf bag.

On the course, full swings feel pure with the Vokey SM10s, and I enjoyed the solid yardage gapping that each wedge provided.

Once I was inside 50 yards, the different sole grinds allowed me to create the shot I wanted and, more importantly, needed on each hole to save strokes.

An absolute stunner, the Titleist Vokey SM10 Wedge offers an easy way for you to improve with the premium short-game tools you’ll see every Sunday on professional golf tours around the globe.
