In the ever-evolving battle between golf club manufacturers, pushing the envelope with putters seems to be the new frontier.
While all companies still look up to Scotty Cameron, equipment manufacturers such as Ping have made a play for the top of the pyramid with their latest luxury release, the PLD Milled and Milled Plus putters.
These flatsticks are a significant leap forward for Ping in terms of price, performance, and craftsmanship.
Each PLD putter delivers that jaw-dropping “wow” factor that so many amateurs love pulling from their golf bags on the weekends.
The PLD provides the premium face milling that sets Scotty Cameron apart from its competitors, along with a black matte finish that gives it an instant place in the bags of several PGA Tour pros.
After spending time with each of these new models, here are a few thoughts on why all golfers, regardless of their budget, should consider carrying a new Ping PLD Milled Putter to the course.
2024 PING PLD Milled: AMP (Aggressive Milling Pattern)
Ping utilizes a process known as AMP (Aggressive Milling Pattern) to increase feel and improve feedback. Based on the response from Ping’s tour players, the company deepened the milling to offer more speed control.
With over four hours of milling with each putter head, Ping takes their time with the forged stainless steel to get the look and precise cutting necessary to reach the high standards of the PLD Milled line.
We love how the milling looks on the PLD Milled putters. It’s finer and tighter than you’ll see on most luxury putters, creating more feel and touch on long-distance putts.
2024 PING PLD Milled: Unique Appearance
Whether you see this as good or bad, the Ping PLD Milled Putters don’t look like your standard flatsticks.
Regardless of the matte black or silver chrome finish, the PLD Milled Putters use their unique design to their advantage, certainly turning heads on the green.
With two blade putters and three mallets in the PLD line, Ping has taken advantage of the expansive offerings to craft wholly original head shapes.
However, when it comes to uniqueness, nothing in the PLD Milled line looks stranger than the Ally Blue 4. The fully machined putter head comes in three pieces and provides golfers with a soft, forgiving hitting area.
2024 PING PLD Milled Putter Models
With five models, the PLD Milled series provides enough options for golfers who love a blade or mallet putter.
All five models carry precision milling and outstanding appearance, which sets these putters apart from their competitors.
Here are the five models and some information to help you choose the one that works best for your game on the greens.

Ping’s most popular model gets an update with the new PLD Milled line. Available in a gunmetal gray finish, the Anser offers all of the stability and classic performance that tour professionals have relied upon for decades.
Weighing 350 grams, the Anser is light on its feet. It offers a nice mix of finesse from close range and solid speed control from deep when you need to place a lag putt close to save par.
We love this putter’s versatility. The Anser allows you to use a slight or strong arc to maintain quality contact that finds the center of the face.

Specifications
- Putter Type: Blade
- Head Weight: 365g
- Stroke Type: Slight Arc
- Loft: 3° (+3°/-2°)
- Lie Angle: 20° (±4°)
Tony Finau’s preferred model, the Anser 2D, weighs 365 grams and is slightly larger than the original Anser model.
With a deeper head, the Anser 2D utilizes its perimeter-weighted design to keep the face square through the impact zone.
Great for golfers who love a slight arc putting stroke, the 2D has an excellent wide alignment guide to help center the ball at address.
During our testing, we enjoyed the size and shape of the Anser 2D.
And while it might not be as forgiving as the PLD Milled mallets, it does a very good job keeping putts along the target line when the impact gets off-center.
2024 PING PLD Milled DS72
Check Price on Global Golf
Specifications
- Putter Type: Mid Mallet
- Head Weight: 365g
- Stroke Type: Straight stroke
- Loft: 3° (+3°/-2°)
- Lie Angle: 20° (±2°)
The DS72, a rounded mid-mallet putter, weighs 365 grams and is best for golfers who want to use a straight-back, straight-through putting stroke.
If you love the shape of a mallet putter but don’t like the size of a traditional model, the DS72 offers a happy medium.
Viktor Hovland’s favorite putter is face-balanced and very forgiving. We loved the large alignment guide that measures the width of one golf ball.
From short distances, the DS72 is an assassin, finding the cup with high frequency. From over 30 feet, the mid-mallet offers superb speed control and forward roll without skipping or hopping off the face.
2024 PING PLD Milled Oslo 3
Specifications
- Putter Type: Mallet
- Head Weight: 375g
- Stroke Type: Slight Arc
- Loft: 3° (+3°/-2°)
- Lie Angle: 20° (±4°)
When you think of a mallet putter, the Oslo 3 is the closest model in the PLD Milled Series to that image.
At 375 grams, it’s Ping’s heaviest putter. The head shape and hosel work best for golfers who love slight arc strokes.
A favorite of Tyrrell Hatton, the Oslo 3 delivers an incredibly consistent roll that offers total control over speed and distance for the golfer.
While we typically don’t like a larger mallet, the Oslo 3 is very convincing due to its performance from inside 25 feet. It produces a clean forward roll that accurately seeks out the cup.
2024 PING PLD Milled Ally Blue 4
Check Price on Global Golf
Specifications
- Putter Type: Mallet
- Head Weight: 370g
- Stroke Type: Strong Arc
- Loft: 3° (+3°/-2°)
- Lie Angle: 20° (±4°)
Arguably the most unique of the new five PLD putters, the Ally Blue 4 offers a three-piece design with a bigger aluminum mallet body.
Very forgiving, it utilizes the finely milled aluminum soleplate to create a well-balanced, stable flatstick.
The Ally Blue weighs 370 grams, so it does provide a heftier feel when compared to other mallets. It also provides an option for golfers who love the size of the mallet and want to putt with a strong arc.
We also loved the top of the putter, which features a wide, high-contrast white line providing a center point against the black matte head.
PING PLD Milled Plus Customization Program
The new PLD Milled Plus Customization Program offers golfers a rare opportunity to put their own stamp on their new Ping putter.
You can choose one or multiple alignment guides, paint fills, and graphics that make your new PLD Milled Plus uniquely yours.
All five new PLD Milled models are available for customization on Ping’s website.
But be forewarned, there are two hassles here.
First, the Plus Customization Program doesn’t come cheap, as an additional $100 will be tacked on to the already expensive price point of the regular PLD Milled Putters.
You’ll also have to take your customization to an authorized PLD Milled fitter so they can custom order your new putter.
Final Thoughts on the 2024 PING PLD Milled Putters
While it might not dethrone Scotty Cameron as the “must-have” putter of the season, the Ping PLD Milled series is primed to turn some heads among professionals and weekend warriors.
With all the bells and whistles, such as premium finely milled faces, high-contrast alignment aids, and incredibly well-balanced heads, the PLD Milled series offers total luxury.
Yes, the price is high, but when you want to improve your game on the greens, the top putters available, like these Ping flatsticks, can make a difference.
Also, we have to say that when it comes to the best-looking putter on the market today, we’re not sure anything can top the gorgeous matte black finish on these PLD Milled Putters.
