Cameron Champ, the 27-year old golfer from Houston, Texas, has won three times on the PGA Tour in his career. Known for hitting low-level missiles down the fairway, Champ has become one of the longest hitters on the PGA Tour since going professional in 2017.

Champ, a longtime player of Ping golf equipment, has enjoyed the company’s long-standing reputation for building innovative golf clubs that generate distance and outstanding control.

In this Cameron Champ WITB article, we’ll look at what golf clubs he carries to the course each week and how his choices could help you drop strokes from your handicap.

What’s in Cameron Champ’s bag? Here’s a rundown:

Because Champ generates such fast ball speed, he needs a forgiving driver, so Ping outfitted him with the new G430 Max. Off the tee box, the G430 Max driver offers increased flex across the entire face for maximum energy transfer into the golf ball.

The driver comes equipped with a 25-gram moveable backweight that creates bias to help reduce the side spin of either a fade or draw shot shape. The weight works with the internal rib structure to stiffen the head to boost strength and improve feel and sound.

Available in three different loft options with a hosel sleeve that customizes height and shape, the G430 Max driver provides total distance control to Champ.

For amateur golfers, the G430 Max driver offers an outstanding array of features that can improve their game off the tee box. The driver is incredibly forgiving for mid and high handicappers, and the backweight lowers CG to increase carry to maximize total yardage.

Cameron Champ’s bag no longer carries a hybrid. Instead, he utilizes the new Ping G430 fairway wood. Everything about the G430 Max fairway works to lower weight, provide more balance, and create ball speed that makes jaws drop.

The best thing about the G430 Max fairway is the 8-position hosel sleeve that can flatten the lie angle and increase or decrease loft up to 1.5 degrees. The sleeve maximizes carry to extend distance while creating precise shots from either the back tees or fairways.

When it comes to giving power with sophistication, the Ping G430 Max intermediate wood features a nice collection of benefits to increase height with low rotation.

Cameron Champ uses the compact, precise Blueprint irons to attack the pin. Similar to his previous set, the Ping iBlades, the revamped Blueprint iron set offers a tremendous feel with exceptional workability.

Ping milled the face and sharpened the grooves to generate spin and improve responsiveness. A favorite of tour pros like Tony Finau and Louis Oosthuizen, Cameron Champ enjoys long distance behind these irons with game-altering accuracy.

The Blueprint irons feature a narrow sole that delivers clean turf interaction that provides consistency from the short grass of the fairway. The irons also cut through the thicker grass of the rough when you need to play a creative shot to save par.

For amateurs, the Ping i230 irons offer the best alternative set to the Blueprint golf clubs.

WEDGES

From inside 150 yards, Cameron Champ enjoys playing with the latest version of the Ping Glide wedges, the 4.0 version. The Glide 4.0 offers a compact blade with a rounded toe that moves effortlessly through the turf to impart rotation on the golf ball.

Much like his irons, Cameron Champ likes to create high RPMs from the short grass around the green. The wedges feature a textured face to increase friction along the ball’s outer layer, which turns into higher rotation.

We found that he carries three wedges in his bag. The 52-degree wedge, a fine piece of golf equipment, offers the most distance out of the three irons.

He uses the 60-degree wedge on tour to rescue from the sand and cleanly get through the tall rough around the green.

The wedges might be too much club for weekend warriors, but these clubs offer superior performance even at the elevated price.

PUTTER

Ping Prototype Anser 30

In Cameron Champ’s bag, he carries the famous Anser putter. The putter offers a classic Anser-blade look with a firm feel and impressive accuracy from mid-to-long distances on the putting surface.

The Anser putter, a longtime favorite of golfers on tour, offers Cameron exceptional balance throughout the putting stroke.

Ping gave the Anser a silver face with a black backdrop to help golfers focus their attention forward on the ball.

For amateurs, the Anser putter offers the same craftsmanship and performance players can expect from Ping golf clubs.

Cameron Champ prefers the Srixon Z-Star XV 8 as his golf ball of choice. The latest release from Srixon offers precision, touch, and softness when players most need it.

When using irons, the Z-Star XV 8 ball provides a crisp feel at impact that doesn’t stay heavy on the face. Built for players with swing speeds above 100 MPH with the driver, the Z-Star XV 8 also features an aerodynamic outer cover that helps accurately navigate wind.

A useful piece of first-rate golf equipment, the Z-Star XV 8 provides players a top-tier option for increasing length and improving workability.
