Four-Way Cambered Sole

Along the bottom of the head, TaylorMade has created a four-way cambered sole that increases playability in any situation, whether you find your golf ball in the sand, rough, or sitting pretty in the fairway.

When using something like the very capable lob wedge in this series, the cambered sole moves easily through the turf to smoothly get the ball into the air.

Full Face Grooves

Along the entire face, TaylorMade has laid down deep grooves that generate plenty of spin and ultimate control. Very forgiving, the wide groove coverage on the TaylorMade wedge grips the ball for an increased feel.

Hi-Toe Design

The design of a higher toe with complete groove coverage helps boost versatility for golfers that enjoy spinning the ball in unique ways. For players who love being adventurous with shorter shotmaking, the wedge’s shape certainly offers advantages.

Looks

When it comes to appearance, you’ll be hard pressed to find a more attractive golf club than the TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 wedge. Adding copper rather than chrome to the design sets the Hi-Toe 3 apart from its competitors.

Along the sole, the milling improves interaction with the grass and sand and gives the head a professional look.

Over time, the club’s face naturally rusts, adding even more texture to the face alongside the microgrooves. Even after the Hi-Toe 3 wedge begins to rust, the copper finish of the sole and back of the head blends well with the new color, giving off a clean, natural look.

Sound & Feel

When it comes to sound and feel, the TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 wedge produces high marks in both categories.

With a dense build to the head, the club always feels solid at impact, delivering an additional feel that certainly increases the more you play with these Hi Toe 3 wedges.

On a full swing with the stock shaft, the wedge feels solid from start to finish. Wedges like the TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 series offer stability from distances outside 80 yards.

With the gap wedge, for example, our testers took advantage of the increased feel and the high bounce options to hit short-range pitches confidently.

Distance

The TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 produces top-tier distance on full swing shots from the fairway and light rough. During our testing with the 50-and 52-degree and nine-degree bounce options, our players found the distance to exceed their current averages.

Even with the lob wedge, our testers registered longer distances than the traditional wedges they carry. That distance comes at the price of shot height and a little spin, but for experienced golfers, that trade-off is well worth the results.

Forgiveness

During our time testing for the TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 Wedge review, we were pretty impressed with the forgiveness provided by the micro ribs groove design.

One of the biggest differences between the Hi-Toe 3 wedge and a traditional wedge lies in the positioning of the center of gravity. The Hi-Toe 3 wedge offers a higher CG that lowers the shot height to provide more control.

The higher center of gravity and moderate flight also dramatically increase forgiveness, even on partial shots where touch and feel are more important than muscle.

Performance

On short game shots from the bunker, these TaylorMade wedges, especially the sand wedge, delivered clean contact during our testing that nestled up nicely to the pin with regularity.

Having the full groove, high toe face also offers versatility as the low leading edge keeps the ball low with plenty of spin.

Previous generations of the Hi-Toe, or even the TaylorMade Milled Grind series, didn’t offer the sophistication or versatility of the Hi-Toe 3 wedges.

With this third generation, TaylorMade has upped their game, producing a single wedge that really puts control of the shorter shots you face on the course in your hands.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are TaylorMade high toe wedges forgiving?

Yes, the wedges are very forgiving because the grooves extend to the edge of the face. The extension of the sweet spot works very well in wet conditions as the water pushes away from the surface rather than hanging in the large ZTP raw grooves.

What is the benefit of a hi-toe wedge?

Simply put, the full face grooves on the TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 offers complete control whether you need it for bunker play or full shots from the fairway.

In any situation, the high toe design allows golfers to swing freely without worrying you’ll hit it off the end of the face without spin or control.

Do hi-toe wedges rust?

Yes, these wedges offer full raw face grooves that naturally rust over time to add texture to the entire hitting area. The naturally aged copper finish also looks very well after the face completely rusts.

Even with the raw finish, the TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 delivers exceptional performance on short game shots, such as pitch shots.

Our Verdict

The TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 is an exceptional golf club with a milled grind along the sole design with all the spin you can handle.

Great for mid and low handicappers looking to add more spin for their short game, the club also produces high ball flight with impressive distance control that lands softly on the greens.

During our testing for this TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 Wedge review, our golfers loved the groove system, especially the raised micro ribs between the grooves that help increase spin, even from the deep rough.

With multiple sole options that cover standard bounce, high bounce, and low bounce, the TaylorMade wedge delivers outstanding performance for a full array of wedge shots.
